Try the American Express Blue Sky charge card! It beats frequent flyer cards cold, in that it has a rewards program that escapes many limitations.

Every dollar earns you points

Every time somebody with the American Express Blue Sky Preferred charge card spends a dollar, they generate 1.33 cents back. That increases to 2.66 cents for restaurants, hotels, vehicle rentals and more.

The American Express Blue Sky is better than frequent flyer cards because new cardholders can generate 15,000 points after the first $1,000 spent in the first three months. An individual makes about $200 with the sign-up bonus, and every point is worth about 1.33 or 2.66 cents. Cardholders can even get a $100 statement credit for travel expenses after getting 7,500 extra points.

Not just spending money

WiseBread explained that AMEX Sky Preferred cardholders get zero percent APR on the first 12 months of brand new purchases and then a 17.24 percent to 22.24 percent variable rate after that.

AMEX also provides an annual airline allows up to $100 that will go towards things like in-flight food, baggage charges and more. It also comes with travel accident insurance.

The card provides extended warranty protection on top of manufacturer’s warranties, and cardholders can get up to $300 per item in a refund if the retailers will not take back a purchase within 90 days. There is a $1,000 annual cap on the item though.

Taking advantage of a Blue Sky

Blue Sky could be worth your time if you travel a lot, though it does require a $75 yearly fee and a 2.7 percent fee on foreign transactions.
